FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM

The FSWP is assessed on 6 factors: age, education, work experience, valid job offer, English and/or French language skills, adaptability. These factors are part of a 100-point grid system. The current pass mark is 67 points. Applications are processed through the Express Entry selection system. The applicant must make an expression of interest by creating an online Express Entry profile.

Minimum requirements:

  • Have obtained at least one year of skilled, professional or technical work experience in Canada within 36 months of the application date.
  • Meet or surpass a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 5 ("initial intermediate") for NOC B jobs or CLB 7 ("adequate intermediate proficiency"), for NOC skill level 0 or A jobs.
  • Either in a full-time (30 hours/week) or part-time (15 hours/week) capacity.
  • May fulfill hours at more than 1 job.
  • Any hours spent working over 30 hours/week are not counted.
  • Language ability at a Canadian Language Benchmark score of 7 in all four abilities.
  • Either a Canadian education or a foreign education credential with an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) from a designated organization.
  • Proof of funds showing that the applicant has enough money to support themselves and their family unless they are legally able to work in Canada or have a valid job offer.

A maximum of 4 points can be received for a second official language with a CLB 5 in all four abilities totaling a maximum of 28 points in the language skills.

Master’s credential or Professional degree to practice in a Licensed profession listed in NOC A by provincial regulatory body. Discipline must be in: Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry, Podiatry, Optometry, Law, Chiropractic Medicine, or Pharmacy.
Two or more Post-secondary credentials, which the first was 3 or more years.
3-Years or more Post-secondary credential.

Arranged Employment

Points may be received if the applicant has a valid job offer of at least 1 year. The job offer must be received before applying as a Federal Skilled Worker. It must be continuous full-time work and not seasonal in an occupation NOC skill level 0, A, or B.

10 points are awarded for having a valid job offer.
